When and why did you begin writing?

I began writing songs when I left my job in sales because I finally had the time to tap into my creative side. That led to my writing songs and stories for children.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When I finished and self-published Ornaments of Love.

Why did you choose to write in your particular field or genre?

I chose to write for children because I love kids and I love how they think. They’re fun, they enjoy life and they love being silly.

Are you a full-time or part-time writer and how does that affect your writing?

I’m a part-time writer because I’m a full-time mom and part-time music teacher.

What are some day jobs you have held?

I sold pharmaceuticals before I left the business world to write and teach music.

What have you written so far?

I wrote and self-published a children’s Christmas book called, Ornaments of Love.  I also created a coloring book that includes the original Ornaments of Love story. The coloring book is titled, Ornaments of Love-Slowing Down with Family at Christmas Time.

What are some ways in which you promote your work? 

I’m working on getting the e-book available in libraries. I’m also promoting it on social media.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Learn as much as you can about the craft of writing, the process of publishing/self-publishing and marketing. There is a lot to learn!

Can you share with readers a little bit about your latest book?

A touching Christmas story with glowing illustrations, Ornaments of Love is a story to cherish for years to come. It is a beautiful tale of Ayana, an endearing ten-year-old who excitedly anticipates that special time of year when the entire family joins together to decorate and admire the Christmas tree.

But sadly this year is different. Ayana realizes that her mom and dad are far too busy with everything else to enjoy the tree with Ayana. Then, something unexpected happens and the family is brought together with tenderness and joy.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I really enjoyed writing a Christmas story and one that focuses on the importance of family. I believe in the message and I’ve had some wonderful feedback from readers saying that the story and message touched and inspired them.

Who or what inspires your writing?

My daughter inspires my writing. She is so creative and original in her thinking! She inspires me every day.

What is one great lesson you have learned as a writer?

I’ve learned that it’s extremely important to write about what I believe in. If I do that, then I will be proud to promote my work.
