Can you share a little bit about your latest book? 

McKinna Rockwell has spent years building the life she always dreamed of. Her debut novel,  Love Can’t Be Measured, has become an instant success, catapulting her into the literary  spotlight, and she and her husband, Dezmond, are preparing to welcome their first child. But just as everything falls into place, a tragic accident after a book signing shatters it all. McKinna is  left in a coma, caught in the space between the life she built and an uncertain future. 

Dezmond refuses to accept a world without her. As he stands vigil by her side, he’s forced to  grapple with a devastating question: What if he loses not just his wife, but their unborn child as  well? Every passing day is a battle between hope and fear, love and loss, as he fights for the life  they were meant to have together. 

Love Can’t Be Measured is more than just the title of McKinna’s novel—it becomes the defining  truth of her and Dezmond’s journey. This deeply moving story explores the strength of love in the  face of unimaginable loss, the resilience it demands, and the power it holds to defy even the  darkest odds. As McKinna fights to return to the life she left behind, she and Dezmond must  face the question that will determine their future: Is love enough to bring her back, or has fate  already made its choice? 

What made you decide to sit down and start writing this book? 

Love Can’t Be Measured was born during one of the most difficult seasons of my marriage.  Things felt uncertain, and doubt settled in like an unwelcome guest. My husband and I were  struggling, but even in the midst of it all, one truth remained unshaken—we loved each other. 

One evening, as I slipped into a warm bath, craving a moment of peace, I made a choice.  Instead of letting the pain and uncertainty consume me, I decided to release it. I closed my  eyes, took a deep breath, and let go of everything weighing me down. In that quiet moment, a  realization surfaced—love isn’t defined by its easiest days. It’s tested, strengthened, and proven  in its hardest. Real love has no limits. It endures. It heals. It finds a way forward. 

At the same time, I was deep into a book where one of the main characters had amnesia, and  something about that storyline captivated me. What would it be like to forget everything—even  the people you love most—and have to find your way back to them? That question lingered in my  mind, and suddenly, inspiration struck. What if my own character, McKinna, lost her memories  and had to rediscover not only herself but also the love she once knew? 

By the time I stepped out of the bath, my mind was alive with ideas. The entire outline of Love  Can’t Be Measured had unfolded before me, and I knew this was a story I had to write. 

Tell us more about your main character. What inspired you to develop this character? 

My FMC, McKinna Rockwell, is more than just a character—she is a reflection of me in ways that  are both deeply personal and sometimes difficult to acknowledge. She embodies the parts of  myself that I don’t always share with the world—the vulnerability, the fears, the moments of  doubt. But she also carries a quiet, unwavering strength, the kind that doesn’t always announce itself but is present in every battle fought and every obstacle overcome.

Like me, McKinna is a survivor in every sense of the word. Her journey isn’t just about love or  self-discovery; it’s about resilience, about facing life’s darkest moments and finding the courage to move forward. Many of the struggles she endures, the emotions she wrestles with, and the victories she claims are drawn directly from my own experiences. 

One of the most personal connections we share is our battle with cancer—a fight that leaves more than just physical scars. Surviving it changes you, reshapes the way you see the world, the way you see yourself. Like McKinna, I came out of that battle forever changed, learning to navigate life with a newfound appreciation for every moment. And like me, she is also a writer, using words as both a refuge and a weapon, a way to make sense of the chaos and turn pain into something meaningful. 

Who is your favorite character in your book and why? 

Love Can’t Be Measured is a deeply personal story, and every character carries a special  significance for me. But if I had to choose one that resonates the most, it wouldn’t be the main  characters—it would be Rocky, the steadfast yellow lab. 

Rocky wasn’t just created to fill space on the page; he has a story of his own. He is inspired by my real-life dog, Rufus, a yellow lab we adopted in 2021. From the moment he became part of our family, it was as if he had always belonged. Rufus isn’t just a pet—he has an almost uncanny ability to sense my emotions, responding to my quiet struggles with his presence alone. He doesn’t need words to comfort me; his loyalty, his steady companionship, and his understanding gaze are enough. 

That same quiet intuition is what makes Rocky so important to McKinna. As she navigates the uncertainty of her new reality, he is her anchor, a reminder that even when everything feels unfamiliar, she isn’t alone. 

What was the hardest thing about writing your latest book? 

Writing Love Can’t Be Measured was one of the most challenging creative experiences of my life. It was my first novel to exceed 90,000 words and my first true romance, which made the process even more daunting. 

One of the most deeply personal aspects of the book came from an exercise I did while writing. To capture the emotional weight of McKinna’s experience, I asked my friends and family to write letters as if I were the one in a coma. These letters weren’t just fictional—they were heartfelt, honest, and filled with love. Each one reflected a different perspective, a different way of remembering and holding onto someone who wasn’t fully present. 

What is your next project? 

My next book will tell Teresa’s story, marking the next installment in a series of interconnected standalone novels. While writing Love Can’t Be Measured, I found myself drawn to Teresa’s character—her depth, her unwavering support, and the life she lived beyond McKinna’s journey. It became clear that she wasn’t just a side character; she had a story of her own waiting to be told.

If all goes according to plan, Teresa’s story will be released in early 2026, and I can’t wait to  share this next piece of the puzzle with readers.
